Abstract
Nutrition is the science that interprets the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health, and disease of an organism. The exact composition of a healthy diet varies depending on the individual needs, specifically age, gender, degree of physical activity, and general health condition, but also cultural context, regional availability of foods, and dietary customs. Nevertheless, the basic principles of what constitutes a diversified, balanced, and healthy diet remain the same. A food pyramid is a triangular diagram representing the optimal number of servings to be eaten each day from each of the basic food groups.
