Abstract
Testicular cancer and prostate cancer represent the most commonly occurring tumours of the male reproductive system. Hormonal, racial, and epidemiological characteristics of these two tumours appear somehow specular and reverse. Prostate cancer is commonly diagnosed among the elderly and rare among younger men and, by contrast, testicular cancer is very frequent among young men and uncommon in older ages. The highest incidence of prostate cancer is recorded among native African populations, while contextually Africans register the lowest incidence for testicular cancer. Recent epidemiologic studies have suggested that exposure to androgens could be partly implicated in lowering the risk of testicular cancer. In contrast, androgens and androgen receptor polymorphism were suggested to promote prostate carcinogenesis.
