Amphibole crystals have an acicular and prismatic form. Frequently, the crystals are fused together. The thickness of the crystals usually exceeds 1-5 μm and their length amounts to 10-30 μm. In view of this, the growth of the amphibole crystals, preceded by partial melting, appears to be the main reason underlying the significant volumetric 'growth' of the products. In this case, evolution of a strong structure (network) containing fine pores occurs and it imparts high structural properties to the light-weight products. The developed ceramics can be used as the linings and the thermal-insulating elements of the units working at a temperature up to 1000°C and, also, as high-temperature filters.
