Abstract
The results of a gravity survey, 37 boreholes, and core logging, sampling and analytical work indicate that the lenticular ultramafic body of pyroxenite contains 1-10% apatite, approx 10% magnetite (with Ti and approx 0.3% V); borehole samples indicate an average of approx 5% apatite (M.A. 82M/2789). Beneficiation tests indicate that an apatite concentrate with 20% P2O5 can be obtained by magnetic separation; this might be used as a slow-acting fertilizer for direct application to the soil. Some 108 t of pyroxenite is indicated, equivalent to 5 000 000 t of apatite. Probe analyses for apatites from seven rock types show them to be fairly uniform, with SrO 0.26-1.39%, P2O5 37.72-40.63%; analyses are also given for magnetite, clinopyroxene, amphibole, mica and melanite. -R.A.H.
