High pressure minerals, such as sodic-amphibole, sodic-pyroxene and pumpellyite, widely occur in the northern sub-belt of the Chichibu trrane in the Kanto Mountains, central Japan, which comprises both the metamorphic domain and the non-metamorphic superficial nappe of Guidi and Charvet [1987]. Petrological data indicate that the metamorphic grade gradually increases from the superficial nappe to the metamorphic domain with descending lithostratigraphic level, supporting that the traditional idea for high-pressure Sanbagawa metamorphism of the Chichibu belt is preferable. -Authors
