Abstract
1. 1. Livers of the teleost fish Micropterus salmoides possess carbamyl phosphate synthetase activity which utilizes l-glutamine as the nitrogen source and requires the presence of N-acetyl-l-glutamate for activity. 2. 2. The apparent Km for l-glutamine is 0·3 mM. Half-maximal activity is obtained when the concentrations of N-acetyl-l-glutamate and ATP-Mg2+ are 0·14 mM and 4 mM, respectively. 3. 3. Synthetase activity with ammonia as the source of nitrogen is less than 8% of that observed with l-glutamine. © 1975.
