Abstract
1. 1. Human liver contains both a mitochondrial, acetylglutamate-dependent, and a cytosol, acetylglutamate-independent, carbamylphosphate synthetase. 2. 2. The mitochondrial enzyme has Km for NH4+ 23 mM. It is inhibited by DTNB and by bromosuccinimide. 3. 3. The cytosol enzyme is active with NH4+ as well as with glutamine. Its ATP and Mg2+ saturation curve is sigmoidal. UTP inhibits the reaction at low ATP concentrations. © 1973.
