With reference to 2 cases of hereditary angioneurotic edema, the authors present a general review of the subject. They analyze the physiopathology and suggest that the level of C1 esterase determined is only the free reserve level. This would explain the total deficit in heterozygous subjects. The authors emphasize the importance of identification of the trait by its relationship to blood groups and suggest a new preventive treatment by pyridinol carbamate.
