Abstract
The urea cycle and related enzymes in human erythrocytes were studied. 1. 1. Arginine, ornithine and citrulline were found in small amounts but ornithine citrulline transferase and carbamyl phosphate synthetase were not found. 2. 2. Concentrations of the detected enzymes were 1/30 to 1/120 of that found in liver tissue. 3. 3. Younger erythrocytes have higher concentrations of enzymes. 4. 4. Arginase activity in uremia and in liver cirrhosis was close to normal. © 1974.
