The reaction of synthesizing methyl N-cyclohexyl carbamate (MCHC) from cyclohexylamine and dimethyl carbonate (DMC) was thermodynamically analyzed. The supported alumina catalysts for this reaction were prepared by impregnation method and evaluated in an autoclave to investigate their activity. Under the conditions of reaction temperature 110°C, molar ratio of cyclohexylamine to DMC 1:20 and reaction time 9 h, the yield of MCHC over 10% Al2O3-SiO2 catalyst was 68.1%. Al2O3-SiO2 catalysts were characterized by XRD, XPS and BET, and it was shown that some changes of Al3+ from tetrahedron to octahedron occurred during the reaction process, which results in the decline of the catalytic activity of Al2O3-SiO2.
