The effect of new molecules, methozoid, leufenuron, fluofenuron (insect growth regulators), lambda-cyhalothrin, beta cyfluthrin (synthetic pyrethroids), thiodicarb (carbamate), chlorpyriphos methyl (organophosphatic insecticides), indoxacarb (oxadiazine) and spinosad, was compared with commonly used insecticides, cypermethrin, chlorpyriphos, quinalphos, endosulphan along with neem based insecticide and Delfin on predators like predatory bugs, spiders and green lacewing in six different experiments. The effect of these insecticides was also observed on mortality of eggs parasitized by Trichogramma chilonis (Ishii) and adult of T. chilonis. Methozoid, leufenuron, fluofenuron, spinosad, lambda-cyhalothrin, chlorpyrifos methyl, indoxacarb, and quinalphos were more toxic. Among the commonly used insecticides cypermethrin, endosulphan and deltamethrin were less lethal. Chlorpyriphos and chlorpyrifos methyl resulted in higher reduction in population. of spiders followed by quinalphos. Methozoid, leufenuron, fluofenuron, spinosad, lambda-cyhalothrin, deltamethrin, and beta cyfluthrin resulted in 32.1-49.7 per cent reduction in population of green lacewing as compared with 68.8-84.8 per cent in indoxacarb, quinalphos, chlorpyriphos, chlorpyrifos methyl, and thiodicarb. Delfin was safe to larvae of green lacewing followed by leufenuron, fluofenuron, and methozoid. Quinalphos, chlorpyriphos and chlorpyrifos methyl were more toxic to larvae of green lacewing causing 90.7-100 per cent mortality of the larvae. The mortality was low in Delfin followed by fluofenuron, leufenuron, methozoid, and spinosad. All the three IGR, Delfin, and spinosad were safer to T. chilonis followed by beta cyfluthrin and lambda-cyhalothrin. Chlorpyrifos methyl and chlorpyriphos were very toxic followed by quinalphos.
