Abstract
The transient spectrum of anthracene anion is obtained in the range 550-780 nm in liquid methylamine at 298 K. The spectrum has a maximum at 730 nm. The anion of anthracene (A) in liquid methylamine follows decay kinetics involving two reactions: (1) A- + CH3HN2âAH + CH4N-; + CH2N and (2) A- + AâA2-. However, reaction (2) is found to be slow with a rate constant equal to 1.1 x 107 dm3 mole-1 at 298 K. Ge-(sol) was found to be equal to 4.0 ± 0.3 by pulse radiolysis of solutions of anthracene in liquid methylamine.
