Abstract
The flow-vacuum pyrolysis of the title alcohol 6, between 500degreesC and 850degreesC at 1.33 mbar in argon atmosphere, was investigated using GC/MS. The primary reaction products, 5,6-dihydro-dibenzo[a,e]cyclooctene (9) and 11,12-dihydro-6H-dibenzo[a, e]cycloocten-5-one (10) disappear at elevated temperatures where anthracene, 9-methylanthracene, 5H-10,11-dihydrodibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene (11) and 4b,5,9b,10-tetrahydroindeno[2,1a]indene (13) become the main reaction products. A radical mechanism explaining the formation of all above mentioned reaction products is suggested.
