In aqueous organic solvents, pyridinium salts and aromatic hydrocarbons form 1:1 complexes. The interaction is of the electron transfer type and is to a considerable extent contactual. It is suggested that the charge transfer ability of the pyridinium ring may contribute to the rate of NADH oxidation in the system of the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase. © 1965.
