Abstract
Acervatol and acervatone, two new triterpenoids, were isolated from the orchid Eria acervata. The structures of acervatol and acervatone were established as 24,24-dimethyl-lanosta-9(11)-en-3 beta-ol (2a) and 24,24-dimethyl-lanosta-9(11)-en-3-one (2c), respectively, from spectral and chemical evidence. These triterpenoids are of considerable biogenetic importance providing circumstantial evidence for the modification of the C-17 side chain of the lanostane skeleton through methionine-induced C-methylation involving allylic rearrangement.
