Abstract
We researched the causes that result in boiler explosion and calculating method of hazard radius of boiler explosion. 3 causes were determined qualitatively by analyzing the mechanism of boiler explosion firstly. They came from defects in design and manufacture, improper management, improper installation and repair, respectively. Destructions were caused by overpressure generated by shock wave in the course of explosion. Then, destructive and injury effects of overpressure, calculation of overpressure generated while explosive explodes were introduced briefly. 2 parts of energy stored in dry saturated vapor and high temperature saturated water, which comprised boiler energy and participated in explosion were analyzed in detail. Because of the complexity of shock wave generated in the course of boiler explosion and lack of systematic experimental data, TNT equivalent weight method was usually used to calculate the overpressure. The process of approximate calculation of hazard radius of boiler explosion resorting to TNT equivalent weight was described in length. An example of approximate calculation of hazard radius of boiler explosion was conducted at last. Some important parameters such as radius in which most of people were dead, radius in which people were seriously injured, radius in which large structures were destroyed and radius in which concrete were destroyed were determined. The results could provide guidance for taking appropriate protective measures to avoid boiler explosion accident.
