Abstract
Plastic bonded explosives (PBX s) are generations of explosive compositions with lower sensitivity, and almost acceptable performance relative to commercial explosives. This class of energetic materials, composed of high explosive particles which is coated or has been mixed with some of polymeric materials, so that the final compound shows some rubber characteristics in its mechanical properties. So, in addition to reducing sensitivity to shock or various external stimuli, shelf life and mechanical properties and also casting characteristic of the product will improve. AFX-757 is a new plastic bonded explosive containing metal powder as fuel in its formulation, with casting production capability, which is charged by cast-cure method. The research for this material is started with the support of US Air Force. The design objective of this formulation is its use in underwater and closed environments. For this purpose in preparation of this formulation, in addition to molecular explosive, metal powder, binding agent and other required components in presence of an oxidizer component are being used. Presence of this combination of fuel and oxidizer together with in a formulation makes the checking compatibility between these more important. In this research this compatibility has been studied very carefully. With regard to other formulations components in AFX-757 is relatively cheaper, processing and loading it into the warhead is easier. This paper introduces production methods AFX-757, results of mechanical tests and performance tests and compared these data with TNT for this formulation is given the perfect match with the available standard military has had this matter.
