Abstract

Ethyl 2,4-dioxo-3-(aryl)-azabicyclo [3.1.0] hexane-6-carboxylates 1 underwent ring expansion in an aprotic solvent in the presence of sunlight to afford ethyl N-(aryl)-2,6-dioxo-piperid-3-ene-4-carboxylates 2 in 68-80% yield. Structures of the products, were established on the basis of spectral data and elemental analysis.
