Eleven isobutylamides have been isolated from the n-hexane extract of the dried roots of Echinacea atrorubens Nutt. Undeca-2E,4E-dien-8,10-diynoic acid isobutylamide represents a new compound. The lipophilic profiles of constituents of the roots and the herb were similar as the alkamide profiles previously found in E. purpurea and E. angustifolia. The polar components of E. atrorubens roots and the aerial parts, however, seem to be very different from E. purpurea and E. angustifolia, since neither cichoric acid nor echinacoside could be found.
