Abstract
It has been found that the spent wash has a high capability of extracting out manganese from soil. One litre volume of spent wash of known characteristics has been found to extract out 175 mg of total Mn, 62.8% of which was in the form of manganous ions. The spent wash has thus been identified as an agent causing Mn-deficiency in soil. The built-in mechanism of transformation of Mn (II) to Mn (IV) in soil has also been found to be impaired by the spent wash.
