The rate of solvent extraction of chromium(III) from aqueous sodium perchlorate solutions with acetylacetone in 4-methyl-2-pentanone and 4-methyl-2-pentanol was measured at 25°C. It was much higher into these solvents than into chloroform and was first order with respect to chromium(III), acetylacetone, inverse first order to hydrogen-ions and second order to perchlorate. It was concluded that the controlling reaction was complex formation between the CrOH2+ species extracted as an ion-pair with two perchlorate ions and acetyl-acetone in the organic phase. © 1980.
