Abstract
This work deals with hydrogen peroxide bleaching at high temperature (90°) using simple phenolic and non-phenolic model compounds of the benzyl alcohol and benzaldehyde types. In addition to the reactions of the phenolic representatives, proceeding via the well known Dakin and Dakin-like mechanisms, the non-phenolic compounds are shown to react at these higher temperatures via an SN2 mechanism to give ultimately the corresponding benzoic acids and a dimeric ether compound.
