New transition metal complexes [M(L)Cl(H2O)] (M(II) = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) with a ligand (HL) derived from the condensation of cephaclor antibiotic with 1,2-diaminobenzene, were synthesized and characterized on the basis of analytical and spectral data. The ligand and the complexes were tested for their antimicrobial activity against several bacterial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6051, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 10031 Salmonella enteritidis ATCC 497, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 10145 and Escherichia coli ATCC 35939 to assess their inhibiting potential.
