"The objective of this research effort is to characterize an advanced composite prepreg system. The material under investigation is U.S. Polymeric's V-391, a modified BMI resin, on continuous Hitex 46-8B graphite fibers. U.S. Polymeric has stated that the V-391 resin has the toughness of thermoplastics and the temperature performance of BMI's (Konarski 89). This study shows that although V-391/H46-8B shows improved toughness over baseline BMI's, its toughness is only a fraction of that of current thermoplastics, but its processability makes it an attractive material over baseline BMI's. Keywords: Resin, Prepreg, Advanced composites, Toughness."
