Abstract
The thermal decomposition characteristics of sodium azid (SA) were studied here through the differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetry (TG), and derivative thermogravimetry (DTG), and the effects of catalysts on the thermal decomposition of SA were investigated. On this basis, the effective thermal decomposition catalysts were selected out, and it was found that the potassium perchlorate, ammonium perchlorate and strontium chloride have positive effects on neat SA decomposition; while alumina, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate and calcium carbonate have retarding effects on it. Besides, the one that promotes the SA decomposition is generally the one that increases the propellants burning rate, and vice versa.
