Abstract
Universal Propulsion Company (UPCO) has qualified the Mk109 Mod 1 Canopy Jettison Rocket Motor (CJRM) for use on F/A-18 aircraft. The Mk109 Mod 1 CJRM contains a reduced smoke ammonium perchlorate composite propellant using HTPB binder and a combination of bonding agents to enhance processing and mechanical properties. The propellant, designated UPCO 6708, has low end-of-rnix viscosity and yields excellent stress/strain characteristics combined with good ballistic performance in Mk109 Mod 1 motors over the temperature range from -65°F to 165°F.
