Abstract
Benzyl acetate was synthesized from acetic and benzyl alcohol using concentrated sulfuric acid as catalyst under ultrasonic radiation. The effects of ultrasonic frequency, ultrasonic intensity, reaction temperature, catalyst dosage, water-carrying agent and water-carrying agent dosage on the esterification were investigated. The kinetics of synthesis of benzyl acetate was studied under ultrasonic radiation or not. The results showed that the esterification reached 93.7% under the conditions of ultrasonic frequency 10 kHz, ultrasonic intensity 10 W/cm, molar ratio of benzyl alcohol to acetate 1.5:1, catalyst dosage 2.0 mL, toluene(water-canying agent) 20 mL, reaction temperature 120°C and reaction time 90 min. Ultrasound could reduce activation energy of synthesis of benzyl acetate from 89.46 kJ/mol to 73.46 kJ/mol.
