Abstract
Many drugs and other chemicals foreign to the body are transformed into highly reactive products by a biochemical system called cytochrome P-450. What governs that system, its nature, and the mechanisms that protect the cell against its reactive products are now under intensive research. The result may be a fundamental understanding of why and how particular chemicals produce cancers and other cellular damage.
