Abstract
The electro-oxidation of benzyl alcohol in alkaline solution was studied on Pt, Ni, Cu electrode by cyclic voltammetric and the constant current electrolysis. The electrolytic products were detected by GC-MS and HPLC. The results showed that only benzaldehyde was detected on Ni electrode, only benzoic acid was detected on Pt electrode, and both benzaldehyde and some benzoic acid were detected on Cu electrode. The influences of scan rate, benzyl alcohol concentration and temperature were investigated by using cyclic voltammetry. The results showed that the reaction on Ni electrode was irreversible, the process was controlled by adsorption step, and the apparent activation energy was 39.72 kJ·moL-1. In situ MS-FTIR spectra was collected during the electro-oxidation of benzyl alcohol in alkline solution on Ni electrode. And it was further confirmed that the product was benzaldehyde.
