A HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of benzyl alcohol and benzaldehyde in apricot kernel oil and amygdalus pedunculata pall oil was established. The sample was extracted by methanol, then analyzed in a HPLC instrument coupled with UV detector. Chromatographic condition: an Agilent SB-C18 column (250 mm×4.6 mm, 5 μm) at 30℃. Methanol: 0.02% phosphoric acid water (30%) was used as mobile phase at a constant flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The detection wavelength was set at 210 nm for benzyl alcohol and 250 nm for benzaldehyde. The results indicated that the average recovery rate of benzyl alcohol and benzaldehyde were 91.8%~93.7%(relative standard deviations, 0.6%~2.0%) and 96.5%~97.7% (relative standard deviations, 0.2%~2.9%), individually. The detection limit and quantitative limit of benzyl alcohol were 0.41 mg/kg and 1.23 mg/kg, respectively. The detection limit and quantitative limit of benzaldehyde were 0.33 mg/kg and 0.98 mg/kg, respectively. The method is not only highly recoverable and reproducible, but also highly sensitive, and can be used to determine the content of benzyl alcohol and benzaldehyde in rosaceae woody oils such as apricot kernel oil and amygdalus pedunculata pall oil. Based on the above reasons, this method provides technical support for the scientific evaluation of the flavor of rosaceae woody oil products. © 2020, Dept. of JCCOA. All right reserved.
