Abstract
This paper explores the synthesis of middle and high molecular weight polyisobutylene(PIB) via isobutylene cationic polymerization catalyzed by AlCl3/oxygen-containing initiator system. The factors that contribute to the polymerization were investigated which include initiators, catalyst concentration, monomer concentration, solvent polarity, polymerization temperature and time. The results show that medium molecular weight PIB(Mw=22.12Ã104)is obtained in dichloromethane with AlCl3/phenetole as the initiator system at -60 â,in which the conversion of monomers reaches 99.00%. High molecular weight PIB(Mw=48.56Ã104)is produced with hexane/dichloromethane as the solvent in which the volume fraction of hexane is 50%. © 2017, Beijing Yanshan Branch, Assets Management Corporation, SINOPEC.
