Asbestos, health, and society: Proceedings of the World Symposium on Asbestos held on May 24, 25, 26 and 27, 1982 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
English
Within the context of the many controversies revolving around asbestos throughout the world, the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec and the Commission of the European Communities have taken the initiative of organizing an international gathering of all milieus concerned, with a view to drawing up as objective and complete an analysis as possible of the asbestos situation.

The Symposium organizers are hoping that this meeting will yield an exhaustive evaluation of the negative and positive aspects of asbestos, so that the international community will be better equipped to determine, with full knowledge of the most recent data, the limits and possibilities, as regards asbestos, of reconciling economic and commercial interests with social preoccupations, including the quality of life.

In short, the ultimate aim of the Symposium is to provide as full and objective an answer as possible for those who are wondering whether society can live with asbestos or whether it need do without it.
