In order to determine the tributyl citrate (TBC) and acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) in water-based cigarette adhesives, TBC and ATBC in the adhesive were extracted with n-hexane, cyclohexane, ethyl ether and 2,2,4-trimethylpentane, respectively, and then determined by GC/MS under selected ion monitoring mode. The results showed that: 1) The optimal extraction conditions were 2 mL of water mixed with 10 mL of n-hexane (solvent) and 0.3 g of adhesive sample, and the mixture was oscillated for 30 minutes. 2) The calibration curves of TBC and ATBC exhibited good linear relations (R2>0.99) with the limits of detection of 0.26 and 0.20 μg/mL, respectively. The recoveries ranged from 96% to 107% with the relative standard deviation (RSD) of 3.93% to 4.12%. This method is suitable for the analysis of TBC and ATBC in water-based cigarette adhesives.
