Dibromoisocyanuric acid (DBI) in concentrated sulfuric acid, oleum or fluorosulfonic acid is used for one step perbrominations of aromatic compounds with deactivating substituents. The reactions are carried out at room temperature in extremly short reaction times (e.g. 1 min. for the perbromination of nitrobenzene in oleum) and-in part-good yields (near 90%). Comparison with other brominating agents of the N-Br type show the superiority of DBI. Tetrabromo-o-dinitrobenzene and dekabromo-diphenylketone were prepared for the first time. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
