Abstract
The asymmetric anionic polymerization of (1-methylpiperidin-4-yl)diphenylmethyl methacrylate (MP4DMA) and 10,10-dibutyl-9-phenyl anthracen-9-yl methacrylate (DBPAMA) produced highly-isotactic, optically-active polymers with helical conformation. The monomers also afforded highly-isotactic polymers by radical mechanism; helix-sense selection was realized using an optically-active additive in the radical polymerization. Poly(DBPAMA) with a high DP showed good solubility in solvents, unlike other helical vinyl polymers.
