Abstract
The fluorescence spectra of naphthalene, pyrene, 1: 2-benzopyrene and the 2-methyl, 2-ethyl, 1,2-dimethyl, 1,6-dimethyl, 2,3-dimethyl and 2,6-dimethyl derivatives of naphthalene have been observed in the pure liquid state. Comparison with the solution spectra shows that each of the liquids has a large excimer emission component. From the temperature at which monomer emission becomes significant it is estimated that the ratio of the binding energies of the pyrene and naphthalene excimers is ⥠1·46. © 1964.
