To understand the effects of thermal aging on the properties of PBX-6 explosive components, the accelerated aging experiments for HMX based PBX (PBX-6) semispherical components (SR50 mm) were conducted at temperature 65 °C for 180 d and 365 d. The property changes of safety and detonation were evaluated through fast cook-off test, drop test and detonation waves test. The experimental data were analyzed comparatively. The results show for the aged PBX-6 explosive components, the outside radiuses increased little, both the mass and the density decreased, the physical uniformity decreased slightly; the thermal safety and the impact safety properties degraded; the shock wave sensitivity increased. The run-to-detonation distance reduced, but the changes of detonation wave profiles were very insignificant.
