Abstract
Antibacterial and antifungal efficiency of Bambusa arundinacea seed extracts were examined using hexane, acetone and hydroethanol as solvents and tested against human pathogens such as Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Aspergillus flavus using Disc diffusion method. All the extracts showed significant activity against all pathogens. Hexane and acetone extracts of B.arundinacea showed maximum zone of inhibition against all microorganisms tested. Hydroethanolic extract of B.arundinacea showed the lowest antimicrobial activity against fungal pathogen A.flavus. Hexane and acetone extracts B.arundinacea seeds could be a possible source to obtain new and effective compound to treat bacterial and fungal infections.
