The method describes an HPTLC method for the simultaneous determination of pseudoephedrine sulphate, and loratadine from their combined dosage form. This employs a silica gel 60 F254 on aluminum foil and a mobile phase comprising n-hexane : dichloromethane : tea in the volume ratio of (5.5 : 4.0 : 0.5). Diltiazem hydrochloride was used as an internal standard. The detection was carried out at 235 nm, The linear detector response for pseudoephedrine sulphate was observed between 12.0 to 90μg while for loratadine 0.8 to 5.0 μg. The method so developed was validated to determine its accuracy and precision. The recovery was carried out by the standard addition method. The recovery was found to be 100.06% for pseudoephedrine sulphate and 99.85% for loratadine. The method developed was found to be accurate, precise, simple and fast and thus can be used for the routine analysis of pseudoephedrine sulphate and loratadine from their combined dosage form.
