Abstract
1. 1. The reagents acetic anhydride, bromoacetic acid, methanolic HCl, nitrous acid, 2,4-dinitrobenzene sulphonic acid, potassium triiodide and phosphorus pentoxide were allowed to react with albumin. 2. 2. The amide, amino and histidine content of the modified proteins was determined. 3. 3. The viscosity, ultraviolet spectra, optical rotation and electrophoretic mobility were examined. 4. 4. No reagent was found to be completely specific in its chemical combination with albumin. 5. 5. The reagents showing best specificity were acetic anhydride for amino groups and methanolic HCl for carboxyl groups. © 1961.
