Abstract
A new static VLE apparatus, designed for operation at ⤠20 bar incorporates novel dual-mode piston pumps which, in the micro-mode, can dispense microlitre volumes repeatably. Pure component vapor pressure and VLE measurements for two test systems, i.e., water + n-propanol and n-hexane + 2-butanol, at two temperatures showed excellent agreement with published data. New VLE data are presented for n-dodecane + n-propanol or + 2-butanol at two temperatures. An accurate new method for finding the cell net interior volume form cumulative injected liquid volumes and corresponding pressures is presented. For systems of high relative volatility, the liquid equilibrium composition might differ significantly from the charge composition in the region dilute in the more volatile component. Equations for the dependence of the limiting activity coefficient on the virial coefficient values used in their computation showed that the influence might be considerable for derivatives numerically larger than ⼠4 à 10 -5 mole/cc. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 18th International Congress of Chemical Process Engineering (Praque, Czech Republic 8/24-28/2008).
