A study was conducted to demonstrate the synthesis of main-chain-type poly[2]-rotaxanes by polycondensation through the Mizoroki-Heck coupling of a homoditopic diviynyl-functionalized [2]rotaxane and dihaloarenes, according to rotaxanation-polymerization protocols. All main-chain-type poly[2]rotaxanes 8 and 9 were soluble in organic solvents, dichloromethane, chloroform, and THF and insoluble in methanol and n-hexane. High solubility of Polyrotaxanes helped to prepare a transparent polymer films on a glass by casting from their chloroform solution. Thermal properties of polyrotaxanes, evaluated by thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), showed 5% weight loss temperature of 9 and 10 from 240-265 °C. The synthesis enables to prepare copolymer 9b containing [2]rotaxanes monomer units (4 and 6) and control of the polymer structure.
