Abstract
In this work it is shown that silicic acid extracted with THF can be esterified easily with various alcohols such as 1-propanol, 1-butanol, 2-propenol, cyclohexanol, and benzyl alcohol by simple azeotropic distillation even under atmospheric pressure. It is also found that subsequent silylation of the esterification products conveniently permits the isolation of the esterification products labile to self-condensation. Therefore, it is expected that this may provide another way of preparing not only novel polysiloxanes but also amorphous silica with organic radicals chemically bonded to silica structures.
