Abstract
The effects of sorption of various molecules in a glassy polymer, poly(ethylene terephthalate), on I3 and λ3 were measured. With benzene and acrylic acid as the sorbed vapors, Ï 3 was decreased without changing I3. Conversely, with n-hexane, cyclohexane and water as the vapors, I3 was decreased without a change in λ3. With methylmethacrylate both I3 and λ3 were decreased. It has been found that these different effects are related to the differences in the solubility parameters. The role of o-Ps as probe of vapor sorption in polymers is discussed.
