Abstract
This paper describes the US Department of Agriculture plant trials using isohexane to extract oil from cottonseed. Isohexane is seen as an alternative to hexane. Based on the data gathered thus far, little or no retrofitting should be required to switch from use of hexane as the extraction solvent to use of isohexane. For those plants already operating at their designed DT capacity, isohexane could be used to increase throughput without expensive capital investments and could have save significant amounts of energy per ton of seed processed.
