Abstract
Recent controversies reported in the literature by Wen and Yu and Botterill et al. concerning the variation of bed voidage at minimum fluidization with temperature are discussed. These are explained and reconciled on the basis of the powder classification scheme of Saxena and Ganzha and the corresponding fluid flow field around the particles, giving rise to the interparticle forces as elaborated by Mathur and Saxena. Thus, the apparent contradictions in the experimental findings are consistent with each other as well as with the hydrodynamical picture of the gas-solid system. © 1987, American Chemical Society.
