Abstract
A discussion on the recent advances of the HIDiC in Japan covers the structure of the HIDiC, which includes rectifying and stripping sections, a reboiler, and a condenser; model for the HIDiC; HIDiC simulation results for the separation problem of twelve-component hydrocarbons mixture (n-butane, isopentane, n-pentane, 2,2-dimethylbutane, cyclopentane, 2,3-dimethylbutane, 2-methylpentane, 3-methylpentane, n-hexane, methylcylopentane, benzene, and cyclohexane); developments and evaluations of internals for the HIDiC, including several studies presented in the sessions related to separation technology of the Japanese domestic meetings on chemical engineering; and a HIDiC project that has been conducted in Europe, which shows that a 90% energy saving could be achieved if the HIDiC is applied to the separation of propylene and propane. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the AIChE 2004 Annual Meeting (Austin, TX 11/7-12/2004).
