Abstract
Feasibility of using alternative solvents for the extraction of soybean oil was studied. The studies were conducted with commercial-grade absolute solvents, aqueous solvents and azeotropes. It was concluded that n-heptane, n-propanol, IPA and ethanol were equally effective in the extraction of soybean oil when compared with n-hexane. The advantage with higher aqueous content solvent was the lower amount of organic solvent required.
