Abstract
2, 3, 4, 6-O-Tetraacetyl-α-D-glucopyranosyl bromide 3 is widely used as an intermediate for the synthesis of sugar esters. Red phosphorus and bromine were reacted in glacial acetic acid to generate phosphorus tribromide. Then glucose pentaacetate and phosphorus tribromide were reacted to provide compound 3. The yield of product obtained was 83.5%. 1H NMR and 13C NMR were used to confirm the structure of 2, 3, 4, 6-O-tetraacetyl-α-D-glucopyranosyl bromide 3. © 2017 Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Union of Chemists in Bulgaria.
