Abstract
In this paper the development of aerobic enrichment cultures which mineralize commonly used fuel oxygenates (tertiary alkyl ethers and tertiary alcohols) is described and quantitative kinetic parameters defining the cultures degradative ability are presented. The mixed bacterial cultures used were from activated sludge of petroleum refinery wastewater. The experimental data on growth conditions and biodegradation kinetics are given along with Monod kinetic parameters estimated using mathematical models.
